A revisit to practice of antibiotic prophylaxis in caesarean section

Background: Women undergoing cesarean delivery are 5-20 fold greater risk of infection than women vaginal delivery. Infectious complications after an important cause maternal morbidity, increase in hospital stay and cost treatment. The use antibiotic prophylaxis for section can reduce the incidence postoperative infectious morbidity.Material Methods: This was a prospective case control study involving 140 various indications, who were divided into two groups, Group A B with 70 patients each which conducted at Maharajah’s Institute Of Medical sciences, vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh duration 1 year. received ceftriaxone 1gm IV 30 minutes before skin incision another dose 24 hours, Ceftriaxone section, followed by 1gm+ Metronidazole 100ml 8th hourly 48 hours oral cefixime till suture removal. Postoperatively, both groups up febrile morbidity neonatal outcome during morbidity.Results: Total analysed each. Baseline characteristics like age, parity, gestational socioeconomic status, similar groups. Postoperative morbidities Febrile surgical site (p=0.8) did not differ significantly. (p=0.66) recovery uneventful. Conclusion: Double single regimen equally effective as compared to multiple doses drugs extended therapy. We cut down on misuse among parturients has implications global emergence resistant bacteria epigenetic allergic diseases offspring.
